Huskies Set to Open Spring Season

STORRS, CT - The UConn men's golf team will get their spring tournament schedule underway playing in the Lake Jovita Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, February 9-10, in Dade City, Florida.Â
The Huskies first event of the spring takes place at the Lake Jovita Resort Country Club with two rounds on Monday and the final round playing out on Tuesday. The Huskies are joined by host Ball State and BIG EAST members Butler and Xavier as well as Dayton, Richmond, Charleston Southern, Georgia State, Valparaiso, Loyola Chicago, Central Michigan, South Florida, Winthrop, Wright State and Bowling Green.
UConn was led this fall by the junior-senior combo of Bradley Sawka (Ellington, CT) and Conor Goode (Glastonbury, CT), who are the top of the Husky lineup for the first time out this spring. Sawka led the team as the top finisher in four of the five events during the fall. He posted a 70.9 per round average and had eight rounds at par or better. He had a pair of top-five finishes including tying individual title at the UConn Invitational.
Goode sported a 71.9 per round average in the fall and had a pair of top-10 finishes. He was the Huskies top-golfer at The Goat tournament at Navy tying for 10th. He finished in the top-20 in three of the five events over the fall.
Rounding out the Huskies lineup for the opening event is sophomores Matt Costello (Taunton, MA), Kai-Jun Huang (Taipei, Tawain) and Caden Blanchette (Manchester, PA). Freshman Brennan Korn (Scottsdale, AZ) will play as an individual.
The Lake Jovita Invitational is the first of six events this spring leading up to the BIG EAST Championship the first weekend of May. The Huskies will stay in Florida for their next tournament, the Watersound Invitational in Panama City Beach on February 15-17.
