Huskies Fall to No. 6 Yale

NEW HAVEN- UConn women's lacrosse (3-4) was defeated by No. 6 Yale (7-0) by a score of 17-5 on Saturday afternoon at Reese Stadium.
Megan O'Brien brought the Huskies even at 1-1, following an early Yale goal two minutes into the game. Kaitlyn Roth pushed the Bulldogs back in front with a goal one minute later. Yale's staunch defense caused seven UConn turnovers in the opening period to take a 2-1 lead into the second quarter.
Yale capitalized on multiple UConn green cards to stretch its lead to 4-1 with 12:30 left in the second quarter. Kate Gould completed the hat trick for the Bulldogs with eight minutes remaining in the half to extend the edge to four goals. Karsyn Burnash cut into the Yale lead (5-2), finding the back of the net to convert on an O'Brien feed.
Gould continued to pace the Bulldogs, with her fourth of the half to re-up the lead to 6-2. After Yale scored its seventh of the half, Ava Plata scored on the free position to cut the deficit to four, with the hosts taking a 7-3 advantage into the break.
Yale shut out UConn in the third quarter, scoring three unanswered to stretch its lead to seven at 10-3. Kelsey Neary snapped the Yale run with a goal on the woman-up advantage to bring the score to 11-4. Rayea Davis cashed in on a Plata assist for her first goal of the day with 7:29 left in the fourth.
Numbers and Notes:
- Yale recorded 25 ground balls, the most by a UConn opponent this season.
- Yale's 17 goals were the most given up by UConn in a single game this season.
- The five goals scored by UConn tied the lowest single-game total this season (Feb. 24th vs Stony Brook).
- O'Brien continued her streak of multi-point games, recording at least two in each game this season.
- Â Plata recorded three points (one goal, two assists), her third straight multi-point game.
