Huskies Fall in Game One

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The UConn softball team fell, 12-4 to No. 9 Arkansas in game one of the series on Friday night at Bogle Park.
Graduate Jessica Walter made her 10th start of the season in the circle for the Huskies. Walter went 4.0 innings giving up nine runs on ten hits.
Arkansas jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the 1st inning and a run in the 2nd inning, giving the Razorback a commanding 5-0 lead after two innings.
Sophomore infielder Cat Petteys got the Huskies on the board in the top of the 3rd inning with her eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot to center field to make it 5-2.
Arkansas extended its lead with two home runs, hitting a solo shot in the the 3rd inning, and a two-run homer in the 4thinning, giving the Razorbacks an 8-2 advantage.
Sophomore Stella Kiemele came on in relief for Walter during the bottom of the 5th inning, making her sixth appearance of the season. Kiemele tossed 1.0 scoreless inning giving up just one hit against four Razorback hitters.
Arkansas added a run to its lead in the 5th inning, making it 9-2.
UConn's offense scored a pair of runs in the top of the 6th inning on back-to-back two-out hits, closing the gap at 9-4. Sophomore outfielder Bella Cruz drove in her sixth RBI of the year with a single down the left field line, scoring Caylee De Meo from second base. Senior outfielder Kaitlyn Kibling followed Cruz with another single, extending her hitting streak to six straight games, and scoring pinch runner Isabella Lundquist from second base.
Sophomore Amber Bretton came on in relief for Kiemele in the 6th inning, making her ninth appearance this season.
Arkansas secured a run-rule victory in the bottom of the 6th inning as the Razorback scored three runs, ending the game at 12-4.
News and Notes
- All four of UConn's runs came with two outs.
- Cat Petteys extended her hit streak to ten straight games. She has hit home runs in three straight contests, recording her eighth home run of the season and her fourth multi-RBI game.
- Haley Coupal extended her hit streak to eight straight games.
- Kaitlyn Kibling extended her hit streak to six straight games. She has recorded an RBI in three straight games.
- Emma Willers has a hit in four straight games.
- UConn left seven runners on base, with five being in scoring position.
- UConn's defense did not commit an error for the ninth time this season.
