Huskies Overwhelmed by No. 20 Denver

DENVER- The UConn women's lacrosse team (3-6) was defeated by No. 20 Denver (8-1) by a score of 15-4 on Sunday afternoon at Peter Barton Stadium.
How it Happened:
Eve Thomsen-Marr scored first for the Pios, just one minute and thirteen seconds into the game. Ryan Dineen capitalized on the free position to double Denver's lead at 2-0 at the end of the first.
Megan O'Brien opened the scoring for the Huskies, responding to a goal from Denver's Olivia Ripple to reduce the UConn deficit to 3-1 with 8:37 remaining in the second quarter. The Pioneers' explosive offense was on display in the quarter, with Ripple, Thomsen-Marr, and Caroline Keil finding the back of the net to stretch the lead to 6-1 with just under four minutes left in the frame. After Keil scored her second of the game, O'Brien countered with a goal on the free position. Caroline Bowers capped off the half for the Pioneers, scoring with twenty-seven seconds remaining in the half to give Denver an 8-2 lead heading into the break.
Emma Dacey capitalized on a Denver yellow card, scoring during the woman-up advantage to reduce the Pioneer lead to 8-3. Keiil and Ripple kick-started the Denver attack with a goal apiece, stretching the advantage back to 10-3.
The Pioneers kept their foot on the gas, rattling off five consecutive goals in the second half to push the lead to 15-3. McKenna Merkel scored her sixth goal of the season in the closing moments of the fourth quarter.
Numbers and Notes:
- The three goals were a season-low for the Huskies. Denver led the shot battle 41-15.
- With her two goals, O'Brien recorded her eighth multi-point game this season.
- Beran recorded five ground balls and five draw controls. Beran has tallied at least five ground balls in six times this season.
