Huskies Close March Against No. 23 Georgetown

STORRS- The UConn women's lacrosse team (3-6, 0-1 BIG EAST) will look to close March on a high note, traveling to Washington D.C. to take on the No. 23 Georgetown Hoyas (6-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field. Opening draw is scheduled for 12:00pm.

The Huskies will look to snap a three-game losing skid, falling to No. 20 Denver on Sunday. Despite the defeat, Abby Beran continued her standout junior season on the defensive end. Beran had five draw controls, five ground balls and five caused turnovers against Denver. Beran ranks third in the nation in ground balls (4.56) and caused turnovers (3.33) per game.
Freshman McKenna Merkel made contributions on the attack, scoring four goals in the two road contests. Merkel tallied a hat trick against Colorado and added a goal against Denver. The Huskies will play in DC on Saturday before returning home to play five of the last six regular season games in April.
Opposition Research:
Georgetown is the fourth consecutive ranked opponent that the Huskies will face. UConn won last year's matchup 15-9 in the regular season finale to clinch a conference tournament berth. The Hoyas edged Marquette on March 21st, winning their conference opener 11-10. Gracie Driggs led the Hoyas with five points, including the go-ahead goal in the fourth quarter. Driggs leads the team in points (29) and draw controls (34). Hoya goalkeeper Leah Warehime matched her season-high with 12 saves in the win at a .545 save percentage. Warehime leads the conference with a .489 save percentage.
