No. 6 UConn Rolls Past Holy Cross, Advance to Hockey East Championship

STORRS, Conn. – The No. 2 seeded UConn women's hockey team defeated the No. 4 seed Holy Cross Crusaders, 6-1 on Tuesday night at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. Six different Huskies scored, punching UConn's ticket to the Hockey East Championship game for the third time in the last five seasons.
UConn goaltender Tia Chan delivered another sensational performance in net for the Huskies, making 27 saves, earning her 25th win of the season.
The first period began with UConn quickly setting the pace with several attempts on goal. Senior forward Kyla Josifovic broke through with the game's opening goal midway through the first period with a power-play goal, her 13th goal of the season, giving the Huskies a 1-0 advantage. Josifovic has recorded a point in seven straight games.
Holy Cross responded with a power-play goal of its own with under two minutes left in the first period, knotting the game at 1-1. The score remained tied going into the first intermission. Shots favored UConn in the first period, 13-9.
Fueled by a three-goal second period, the Huskies recorded their fifth game with at least five goals in their last seven contests. Junior forward Julia Pellerin scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal just four minutes into the second period, her 13th goal this season, putting the Huskies ahead for good, 2-1. Pellerin leads the Huskies with seven game-winning goals this season.
UConn finished the second period strong with two goals in the final two minutes. Senior forward Megan Woodworth capitalized on a power play for her team-leading 16th goal of the season, increasing the lead to 3–1. Just 79 seconds later, junior forward Ashley Allard netted her 10th goal of the season, extending the Huskies lead to 4-1. This marks the first time Allard has reached double digit goals in a season in her career.
UConn took the three-goal lead into the second intermission. Shots were in favor of the Huskies in the second period, 16-6.
UConn continued their offensive pressure on the Crusaders in the third period as junior defender Maya Serdachny scored her sixth goal of the season, pushing the Huskies lead, 5-1. Senior forward Christina Walker recorded the final goal of the game, her sixth of the season, making it 6-1.
Chan managed to keep Holy Cross off the board in the third period, making 13 of her 27 saves in the closing 20 minutes.
UConn outshot the Crusaders 38–28 and held a decisive edge in faceoffs, winning 33 of 48 draws. On special teams, UConn excelled by going 2-for-2 on the power play while Holy Cross went 1-for-1.
