STORRS, Conn. – No. 6 UConn women's hockey (26-8-2) will play for the Hockey East Championship against No. 5 Northeastern (28-7-1) on Saturday, March 7 at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. Puck drop is set for 3:30pm. The game will be televised on ESPN News. TICKETS
UConn is coming off two dominant performances in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, winning those two games by a combined score of 12-2. The Huskies are averaging 45.5 shots per game and have held their opponents to 24.5 shots per game so far in the Hockey East Tournament. UConn's power play has been nearly perfect the past two games, converting on four out of their five opportunities.
Forwards, Kyla Josifovic, Julia Pellerin, Christina Walker, and Megan Woodworth have each found the back of the net in UConn's first two postseason games. Claire Murdoch has led the Huskies in points with six (1g, 5a) in the Hockey East Tournament. Three of Murdoch's six points have come on the power play.
Goaltender Tia Chan has been strong in net for the Huskies in the postseason, saving 47 of the 49 shots she has faced in the tournament, giving her a .959 save percentage.
A Look at Northeastern
The No. 1 seed Northeastern Huskies advanced to the Hockey East Championship for the 10th consecutive season, beating Boston University in the quarterfinal, 2-1 in double overtime and then taking down Vermont, 3-1 in the semifinal. Northeastern clinched the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament with a 21-2-1 conference record this season. The Huskies are coached by Dave Flint in his 17th season. Northeastern has been led by the Hockey East Player and Co-Rookie of the Year, Stryker Zablocki who leads the league in goals and points this season. Northeastern had a total of six Hockey East All-Star selections.
Series History
This will be the fifth meeting between UConn and Northeastern in the Hockey East Championship game. Northeastern holds a 3-1 record against UConn in the previous four matchups, but UConn won the last game in 2024 in overtime, 1-0. This season, Northeastern won all three regular season contests against UConn in Storrs, two being one-goal games.
