STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team (4-15) is set to open BIG EAST play this weekend against the St. John's Red Storm (14-6) at Baker Athletics Complex at Columbia University. The series will begin on Sunday, March 8 with a doubleheader starting at 12:00pm with the second game to follow, scheduled for 2:30pm. The series will conclude on Monday, March 9 at 1:00pm. All three games will be streamed on the St. John's Red Storm YouTube Channel.
The Huskies enter BIG EAST play with a 4-15 overall record so far this season. UConn has two infielders hitting above .300 this season in senior Savannah Ring (.345) and sophomore Cat Petteys (.317). Petteys leads the UConn roster in hits (20), doubles (5), runs scored (11), and slug percentage (.540). Junior outfielder Kaitlyn Breslin leads the Huskies in home runs (4), and RBI (14) this season. Breslin earned BIG EAST Honor Roll for her performances at Liberty last weekend. In five games, she hit .375 with six hits, three being homers, and seven RBI.
In the circle, graduate Jessica Walter and freshman Caprice Bohmer have led the Huskies pitching staff this season. Walter has a 3.47 era in 40.1 innings pitched, posting a staff-high three victories this season. Bohmer has recorded a team-high 50 strikeouts this season in 45.2 innings pitched, across 12 appearances.
A Look at St. John's
The St. John's Red Storm are 14-6 through their first 20 games of 2026. The Red Storm are 2-3 in their last five games. St. John's is coached by Michelle DePolo entering her third season. The Red Storm were selected to finish in first place in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll. They have been led by senior outfielder Jess Bianco.
Series History
St. John's won last year's regular season series with the Huskies, winning two out of three in Storrs. Under head coach Laura Valentino, UConn has gone 11-5 against the Red Storm. UConn leads the all-time series, 72-21.
