Huskies Go 1-1 on the Road, Triumph Over Villanova, Fall to Georgetown

VILLANOVA, Pa. / WASHINGTON, D.C. – The UConn women's tennis team battled through a pair of competitive road matches this weekend, defeating Villanova and falling to and Georgetown.
At Georgetown, the Huskies trailed early in doubles play but fought hard. Victoria Matos and Madison McLeod were edged 6-3 by Julia Chu and Ruhika Bhat on court one, while Isabella Asenov and Cameron Didion fell 6-4 to Katie Garofolo-Ro and Emily Novikov on court two.
UConn rallied in singles as Didion captured the Huskies' first point with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ashley Kennedy on court four. Lomans followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Chu on court two, bringing UConn within one point at 3-2. Platenikova closed her match with a hard-fought 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over Novikov.
Despite the strong comeback, the Huskies fell in a final 3-4 score.
At Villanova, UConn took control early and ultimately secured the overall victory 4-3. Earning the doubles point with wins in the first two matches of the day as Chloe Lomans and Ela Platenikova defeated Emi Callahan and Maggie Gehrig, 6-3, and the duo of Victoria Matos and Madison McLeod followed with a 6-2 win over Lauren Monti and Jenna Stevens, while the third doubles matchup went unfinished.
In singles, the Huskies delivered when it mattered most, claiming key courts to clinch the match as Chloe Lomans earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Maggie Gehrig, Cameron Didion dominated with a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Jenna Stevens, and Isabella Asenov sealed the win with a 7-5, 7-5 decision over Lauren Monti. Villanova picked up three singles wins, but UConn's depth and strong performances across the lineup proved to be the difference in the match.
