UConn Overcome by Vanderbilt in Second Half

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Huskies kept the game close in the first half on Wednesday, but UConn was overcome by Vanderbilt 16-8 at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.
Junior attacker Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.) and senior attacker Jacqueline Jordan (Los Gatos, Calif.) each had a hat trick for the Huskies in the weekday matchup with Commodores.
UConn drops to 3-8 overall this season and is 0-4 in conference play. Vanderbilt now owns a 6-4 overall record and is 3-1 in Big East games.
Fresh off her record-tying 20-save performance, freshman Grace Beshlian made her 11th start of the season and had eight stops against the Commodores.
The Huskies were ahead 2-1 in the beginning of the game before Vanderbilt scored four unanswered goals to take a 5-2 lead.
UConn outscored Vanderbilt 3-2 in the last 10 minutes of the first half and the Huskies only trailed by two goals going into the halftime break.
Vanderbilt opened the second half with two back-to-back goals 30 seconds apart to extend its lead to 9-5.
UConn answered with two goals of its own, one apiece from Nolan and Jordan, but after that UConn was plagued with an 18-minute scoring drought in the second half.
During that drought, the Commodores scored four-straight to go ahead 13-7. UConn finally snapped the scoring drought when Jordan scored her third goal of the day with 4:20 to play in the game.
Vanderbilt scored three more times in the last four minutes of the game. The Commodores outscored the Huskies 7-1 over a 21 minute span in the second half.
UConn outshot Vanderbilt 20-17 in first frame, but the scales shifted in the second half as VU outshot the Huskies 19-9 in the second for an overall 36-29 edge on shots.
