UConn Dominates Butler 17-4 on Saturday

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's lacrosse team scored 13 goals in the first half to cruise past Butler 17-4 on Saturday at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
The Huskies (4-8, 1-4 Big East) picked up their first league win against the Bulldogs, who drop to 0-5 in Big East games, 1-12 overall.
Junior Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.) led the team with four goals and tacked on two assists for a game-high six points. Nolan eclipsed the 100-career goal milestone on Saturday and now owns 101 career goals as just a junior.
Senior Maggie Tripodi (Syracuse, N.Y.) was one of nine different Huskies to tally one goal, but added three assists for a total of four points.
In an action-packed first half, the Huskies outscored the Bulldogs 8-1 in the first 10 minutes of the game. Butler notched its second goal of the game with 18:07 to play in the first half, but UConn scored five-straight and held the Bulldogs scoreless for those 18 minutes to close out the half with a 13-2 lead.
Senior Ally Tilley (Setauket, N.Y.) and freshman Olivia Miles (Watertown, N.Y.) each grabbed a pair of goals for the Huskies. Tilley finished with three points and Mile with four, to tie Tripodi for second on the squad in points.
With a running-clock coming out of halftime, there were only six goals scored in the entire second half. Butler opened the scoring 36 seconds into the second stanza. UConn scored three unanswered goals in less than 10 minutes to go up 16-3 with 18:11 to go.
Sophomore Dani Dunn (Darien, Conn.) and freshman Francesca Messura (Hamlin, N.Y.) scored their first career goals in the second half of Saturday's contest.
Dunn scored with 13:45 remaining in the game and neither team scored after that to leave UConn on top 17-4.
Freshman Grace Beshlian (Wantagh, N.Y.) backed UConn to victory with eight saves, five of which came in the second half. UConn dominated Butler 42-14 in overall shots.

The Huskies are back at home on Wednesday, April 12 when they host the Marquette Golden Eagles at the Sherman Complex for a noon matchup.
