Huskies Win Home Opener 9-1 vs. Hartford

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team won 9-1 in its home opener against Hartford on Thursday at J.O. Christian Field.
The Huskies (13-9) received another strong performance from Tim Cate who posted 6.2 scoreless innings, scattering two hits and striking out six. The UConn left-hander earned his 12th career win and moved to 3-4 on the season.
The Huskies led for much of the game 1-0 after a second inning home run from Isaac Feldstein, his team-leading eighth of the year.
Cate and reliever Jake Wallace kept the Huskies in front by getting out of jams in the sixth and seventh inning.
Cate maneuvered around a runner at third one-out situation in the sixth. Getting Campana to pop out to second and striking out Walker to keep UConn ahead 1-0.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh, Wallace came out of the pen and got a grounder to first to end the threat.
Anthony Prato made the Hawks pay in the seventh with a two-out RBI single. The base hit came after an error extended the inning for the Husky bats.
The Huskies broke through in the eighth by scoring seven runs on five hits to secure the win.

Troy Stefanski grounded an RBI double down the first base line to make it 3-0 UConn. Chris Winkel broke the game open with a two-run single to push the lead to 5-0.
Mike Woodworth (RBI Single) and Zac Susi (Two-Run Single) also contributed in the 12-batter inning.
The Huskies return to action tomorrow at 3 p.m. against CCSU at J.O. Christian Field.
Notes
With his six strikeouts on Thursday, Tim Cate has 256 career strikeouts. He is seven away from tying Anthony Kay's (263) UConn record.
The Huskies defeated Hartford for the first time since 2013. Ending a four-game win streak in the series for the Hawks.
The Huskies are 6-2 when Isaac Feldstein hits a home run.
