STORRS, Conn .- The UConn women's soccer team dropped its sixth-straight decision on Sunday with a 5-3 defeat to the UCF Knights at Morrone Stadium.

After 23:46 minutes of play, the Huskies trailed 4-0 with one of those goals coming off the foot of Liane Keegans and deflecting into the UConn goal. But, like many programs on the Storrs campus, the team showed off its blue collar, fight back mentality that nearly brought UConn all the way back.

Senior Elena Santos and freshman Pato Jerzak linked up twice in an eight-minute span to bring the score to 4-2 heading into halftime. At the 32:21 mark, Jerzak lined a shot off the UCF keeper that bounced straight to Santos and the West Hartford native deposited it into the back of the net.

Jerzak picked up her second assist of the game by lofting a ball inside the box that found Santos inside the six. Santos received the ball past the UCF keeper and scored on an open net. Santos' brace is the first multi-goal game of her UConn career and the multi-faceted senior has scored four goals this season, all in American Conference play.

UConn continued to attack to begin the second half and Sophia Danyko-Kulchycky made it a one-goal affair with her fourth goal of the season. Known as DK, the sophomore received a throw in pass from Reagan Schiappa and fired a dart into the net to make it a 4-3 deficit.

Moments later in the 60th minute, Erin Spillane and Santos had point blank opportunities that the UCF keeper, Vera Varis, was able to deny.

Pressure continued to be applied with DK and Jerzak having chances from just outside the box. Both players sailed shots high as UConn tried to find an equalizer.

UCF was able to provide a bit of cushion with an insurance goal in the 65th minute.

UConn players donned green headbands during the match for Mental Health Awareness Week that begins this week.

UConn drops to (2-11, 0-4 American) and will enter a bye week. The next contest for the team will be on the road on Thursday, Oct. 11 at ECU.
