WXC Opens Season at Minuteman Invitational

STORRS, Conn. – The women's cross country team kicks off the 2018 season with the Minuteman Invitational in Amherst, Mass. on Saturday, Sept. 8.
The team's four highest finishers in the 2017 Northeast Regional Championship lead head coach J.J. Clark into his fifth season at UConn. Seniors Courtney Akerley and Haley Hasty, junior Danielle Jordan and sophomore Mia Nahom are all back for the Huskies.
Seniors Susan Aneno, Kelsey Swanson and Talia Straiger, sophomores Mackenzie Pias, Kate Romanchick and Rachel Vick all contributed to the team in 2017.
Last season, UConn finished first in the Minuteman Invitational with Nahom racing to a third place result. Overall, six Huskies finished in the top-10 with sophomore Brianna O'Brien, senior Kelsey Swanson, Akerley and Hasty placing fourth through seventh.
UConn adds eight freshman to the roster with the additions of Taylor Bonadies, Randi Burr, Celia Chacko, Kate Daley, Nicole Faucette, Ayoola Gbolade Emma Krebs, Sarah Leatherwood and Emily Talisse Thompson.
The Huskies follow the Minuteman Invitational with the Bulls Stampede Invitational (Sept. 14), Paul Short Invitational (Sept. 29) and then compete in the New England Championships in Boston on Oct. 6. UConn then participates in the Princeton Invite on Oct. 12.
The American Athletic Conference Championships follow on Oct. 25 in New Orleans with NCAA Regionals (Nov. 9) and NCAA Nationals (Nov. 17) scheduled during the month of November.
The Huskies reached the NCAA Regionals back in 2016, recording a 15th place finish.
