Huskies Take Down Temple

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – The UConn volleyball team defeated Temple in four sets to claim its second conference win of the season. The Huskies improve to 8-7 on the season and 2-1 in conference play, while Temple falls to 9-5 on the year and 0-3 in conference play.
How it Happened
The Huskies got off to a slow start in the first set, falling behind 12-5. UConn battled back and cut into the Temple lead as the set went on. With the teams tied 19-19, the Owls went on a 6-2 run to take the first set by a score of 25-21.
UConn shook off the first set loss and came storming out in the second set. The Huskies led 14-7, forcing Temple to use both timeouts early and went on to lead 22-12, the largest lead of the game. The second set finished with UConn taking a 25-16 victory to tie the game.
Another hot start for the Huskies saw them take an early 8-3 lead before Temple clawed back with four straight points of its own. A back and forth set led to UConn regaining the lead at 18-16 and eventually taking the set by a score of 25-20 and 2-1 lead in the match.
The final set began with Temple taking a 7-1 lead. After a UConn timeout, the Huskies fought back to chip away at the lead, cutting it to 13-11 midway through the set. Carrying the momentum, UConn took the lead at 19-16. The Owls would not go down easy, as the teams went back and forth late in the set. The Huskies finally took the set 27-25 and the game 3-1.
Team Effort
A great performance from a well-balanced Husky offense led to the team's second conference win. Junior Isabelle Peterson recorded 12 kills and three digs, hitting at a .440 clip. Sophomore Caylee Parker recorded her sixth double double of the season, hitting .333 and tallying 16 kills and 15 digs. R-Sophomore Courtney Morris helped the offense with a team-high 49 assists, adding six kills and nine digs, hitting .667. R-Junior Genna Florig added 11 kills, seven blocks, and two digs. Fellow R-Junior Avery Spaziani led the team with 20 digs and added five assists.
