WHOC Skates to 6-1 Win, Sweeps LIU

SYOSSET, N.Y. – The UConn women's hockey team put on an offensive display Saturday night, securing a 6-1 win and a clean sweep in the season-opening series against LIU. Five different players found the back of the net for the Huskies while sophomore netminder Samantha Carpentier-Yelle stuffed all 13 shots she faced.
An offensive explosion in the first period gave UConn a 3-nil lead heading into the first intermission. Natalie Snodgrass got the night started for the Huskies in the 5' with a backhand shot on the breakaway. Catherine Crawley fed Viki Harkness in front of the net to push the UConn advantage to two goals before senior captain Briana Colangelo added a power play goal in the 16' to make it 3-nil Huskies.
Danielle Fox cashed in with 40 seconds remaining in the second frame, going through the five hole of LIU netminder Ava Bailey for the Huskies fourth tally of the game.
The offensive flurry continued into the final period, as UConn tacked on two more goals to put the finishing touches on a dominating performance. The Huskies led 5-0 after Harkness notched her second goal of the evening just 44 seconds into the third before Morgan Wabick joined in on the fun with a tally in the 8'. Danika Pasqua found Wabick in transition, and the junior's backhand bounced off the crossbar and into the cage.
LIU's Carrigan Umpherville scored the Shark's inaugural goal in the 16' to make it 6-1 Huskies, the final result.
