Huskies Tripped Up By Indiana, 57-54

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Josh Carlton poured in 18 points and grabbed five rebounds and Tyler Polley notched 12 points of his own, but the UConn men's basketball team fell to Indiana, 57-54, Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.
Freshman Akok Akok added nine points and five blocks in the loss.
Indiana scored the first four points of the game before UConn came roaring back to grab a 19-10 lead at the 9:11 mark of the first half. The Huskies led by as many as 10 through the opening period, but the Hoosiers closed the half on an 18-3 run to take a 34-29 advantage into the break.
The Hoosiers opened up a 38-31 lead early in the second half, but their seven-point advantage didn't last long as the Huskies battled back to tie the game at 38-38 following a Fastbreak lob from Christian Vital to Sidney Wilson.
The contest grew tighter as the game wore on and the defensive intensity picked up. UConn tied the game at 47-47 when Carlton finished a second-chance layup inside, but a quick 5-0 burst gave the Hoosiers a five-point lead at the 3:27 mark.
The Huskies never wavered, drawing within two points after Alterique Gilbert knocked down a 30-footer with 14 seconds remaining.
Indiana made a free throw to extend their lead to 57-54 with nine seconds on the clock. UConn had one last to send the game to overtime, but the Huskies were unable to get a shot off and the Hoosiers escaped with the three-point victory.
