WHOC Closes First Half of Season with Providence Home-and-Home Series

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's hockey team will wrap up the first half of the 2019-20 season this week, as they take on the Providence Friars in a home-and-home series Thursday and Friday. The Huskies will travel to Providence for Thursday night's tilt before returning to Freitas Friday night for the return game. Both contests are scheduled for a 6:00 pm puckdrop.

What to Know:
- UConn enters the week 8-7-1 overall and 5-3-1 in Hockey East. The Huskies are tied for third place in the conference with Boston University and New Hampshire, all with 11 points.
- Natalie Snodgrass leads the UConn attack with 17 points on eight goals and nine assists, while Catherine Crawley has notched four goals and a team-high 11 assists to total 15 points. Briana Colangelo (11) and Taylor Wabick (10) are the other two Huskies with double figure points.
- The Friars are currently 8-6-2 overall and 5-4-0 in Hockey East play. Providence earned a 1-0 shutout victory over No. 3 Northeastern to open league action (Oct. 25). Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.) scored the game's lone goal 3:18 into the second period and Clare Minnerath (Sartell, Minn.) posted a career-high 33 saves to fuel the win. It marked her first shutout of the season and second of her career.
- Sara Hjalmarsson leads the Friars in points with 15. Hjalmarsson has a team-high 15 points on eight goals and seven assists. Whitney Dove (Port Moody, British Columbia) trails Hjalmarsson with 14 points on four goals and ten assists. Maureen Murphy (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.) have each tallied 11 points apiece, with Bailey Burton (Bloomington, Minn.) being the final player in double digits with 10.
Leading the Pack:
Chris MacKenzie enters his eighth season leading the UConn women's hockey team. MacKenzie has won over 100 games during his time at UConn and has been an instrumental part in turning the program around. In 2015-16, Mackenzie coached UConn to their first winning season since 2010.
