STORRS, Conn. – After wrapping the 2018-19 regular season this past Friday against BU, the UConn women's hockey team prepares to take on Boston College in a best-of-three series in the Hockey East quarterfinals at the Conte Forum. UConn secured its spot in the Hockey East Tournament three weeks ago after a 3-2 victory over Vermont back on Feb. 8.
The Huskies (14-16-4, 9-14-4 WHEA) enter the tournament as the seventh-seed and will face the second seeded Eagles (23-10-1, 19-7-1 WHEA), who enter the weekend ranked No. 6 in the USCHO Poll. Below is the weekend schedule for the UConn:
- Friday, March 1 – Game 1 | 2 p.m.
- Saturday, March 2 – Game 2 | 2 p.m.
- Sunday, March 3 – Game 3 (if necessary) | 7:30 p.m.
Scouting the Eagles…
- Boston College enters the weekend ranked No. 6 in this week's USCHO Poll and No. 7 in the USA Today Poll. The Eagles are coming off a 3-3 draw Saturday afternoon at New Hampshire.
- Megan Keller leads the team in points (41), while Daryl Watts posts a team-high 19 goals. Makenna Newkirk leads Boston College in assists with 24 helpers this season.
- In 30 games, netminder Maddy McArthur recorded a 2.00 goals-against average, a .913 save percentage and a 20-9-1 mark between the pipes.
Series History…
- Boston College swept the regular season series, 3-0, with the most recent matchup taking place back on Nov. 17.
- This will be the first meeting between the two schools in the quarterfinal round. The Huskies and Eagles have clashed three times previously in the Hockey East Tournament, each occurring in the semifinals.
- Most recently, seventh-seeded UConn upset BC in the 2018 WHEA Tournament as the Huskies posted a 4-2 victory en route to an appearance in the championship game, becoming the first team in league history to achieve that feat. Natalie Snodgrass tallied two scores, while Nora Maclaine slotted home the game-winning goal in the third period – her first of the season.
Postseason Experience…
- 14 players on the UConn roster have experience playing in the Hockey East Tournament – of that group, the Huskies four senior players were a part of the run to the 2016 Hockey East Semifinals, while all 14 were apart of UConn's magical run to the WHEA championship game.
