Lacrosse Drops Road Contest at UMass, 19-13

AMHERST, Mass. – Taking to the road for the first of two consecutive road games, the UConn women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-13 decision to the UMass Minutewomen Saturday afternoon at Richard F. Garber Field. UConn falls to 0-5 on the season, while UMass improves to 2-2.
Caitlin Leary paced the Huskies with four goals, while Sydney Watson and Brooke Jensen each recorded hat tricks. Anna Costello, Sam McKenna and Lexi Kenneally also found the back of the net for UConn, each scoring one goal apiece.
UMass put the first three goals of the afternoon before Brooke Jensen netted an unassisted goal to get UConn on the scoreboard. After the Minutewomen built their lead up to five, the Huskies received back-to-back goals from Watson and Leary to cut the deficit to 8-5, but the home team tallied the last two of the half to take a 10-5 lead into the locker room.
The teams traded goals to begin the second half, but UMass would score seven of the next eight goals to take a double-digit lead, 19-9, with 13:22 remaining. UConn closed the game on a 4-0 run dwindle the score down to the final result, 19-13.
