STORRS, Conn. – The Huskies completed the weekend sweep of the Dog Pound Challenge with a thrilling 3-2 win over Providence College on Saturday night at Gampel Pavilion. The Huskies improve to 6-6 on the season, while Providence drops to 5-8.
UConn dropped a back and forth first set by a score of 25-23 before taking the second set 25-21 and the third set 25-18. The Friars took set four 25-16 to send the game into a decisive fifth set. The final set was won on a kill by Sophomore Kennadie Jake-Turner.
Jake-Turner had 11 kills on the night and added three digs while hitting at .370. R-Junior Genna Florig hit at a team-high .393, adding 14 kills and four digs. Sophomore Anna Petrova recorded her first career double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Fellow Sophomore Caylee Parker recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 16 digs and 14 kills. R-Sophomore Courtney Morris led the Huskies with 47 assists and added 12 digs.
"After last weekend, going 0-3 in Ohio, I think there were a lot of gut checks after that," said Head Coach Ellen Herman-Kimball post game. "I think it was really a collective team win, when one person struggles there is another to pick people up. Our middles this weekend were phenomenal and it's fun when we are firing on all cylinders."
Courtney Morris, Kennadie Jake-Turner, and Genna Florig were named to the Dog Pound Challenge All-Tournament Team for the Huskies.
