Boker Leads No. 3 UConn to 6-2 Win Over No. 22 Old Dominion

STORRS, Conn. – Senior forward Svea Boker tallied five points to lead the No. 3 UConn field hockey team (8-1, 2-0 BIG EAST) past No. 22 Old Dominion (5-3, 0-1), 6-2, Friday afternoon at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
Boker scored twice and had one assist. Freshman Marie Auer, sophomore Maddy Wray and freshman Claire Jandewerth also scored vs. the Monarchs. Auer, junior Lindsay Dickinson and senior Antonia Tiedtke each notched an assist while freshman Sophie Hamilton dished out three assists.
After a scoreless first quarter, Wray notched the first goal after taking a pass from Hamilton in front of the cage at 24:03. Exactly four minutes later, Gooderham notched a goal after Hamilton dribbled in on a corner opportunity and found her in front of the cage. UConn took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Jandewerth notched her first collegiate goal off a penalty corner shot at 39:06. Old Dominion scored twice within a minute to pull within one goal at 42:12. Boker brought the momentum back to the Huskies has she took the ball in the midfield, drove into the circle and scored off a backhanded shot at 44:47.
Boker scored again less than a minute later off a corner attempt. Auer notched the final goal of the game at 53:18, taking a pass from outside the circle from Boker and defecting it over the goalkeeper.
Redshirt sophomore Cheyenne Sprecher made five saves in goal. Tiedtke also had a defensive save.
UConn led 23-9 in shots and 12-4 in penalty corners.
The Huskies are back in action Sunday vs. Boston University at 1 p.m. at the Sherman Sports Complex.
