BOSTON, Mass. – The UConn women's hockey team suffered its second-consecutive road loss Friday night, falling at third-ranked Northeastern, 4-0, at Matthews Arena.
Senior Morgan Fisher collected nine saves and sophomore Samantha Carpentier-Yelle racked up 21 saves in the loss.
UConn and Northeastern will wrap up the weekend series tomorrow afternoon at the Freitas Ice Forum. Puckdrop is slated for 3 pm.
A first period eruption by the host Huskies was the difference in the game. Northeastern got going in the 8', when Kate Holmes tucked home a rebound at 7:48 after Micaela Sindoris' initial shot was stuffed by Fisher.
Northeastern extended their advantage less than two minutes later at 9:42 and took a two-goal lead after Chloe Aurard flipped the puck over Fisher's right shoulder. Megan Carter's wrist shot from the left point at 16:22 made it 3-0.
The Huskies went on the attack in the second as they looked to get back into the game, peppering Northeastern netminder Gwyneth Phillips with seven shots through the 20-minute frame. UConn was knocked on the doorstep a several times but were unable to put slip one along the goal line. Carpentier-Yelle, who checked in for Fisher early in the second period, was equally up to the task as she turned away all nine Northeastern shots she faced.
The home team sealed the win at the 6:26 mark of the final frame, leaving the first game of the series with a 4-0 victory.
