WHockey 2020-21 Journey Begins Saturday at Providence

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's hockey team is set to open its season with a home-and-home series against Providence College beginning with a road contest on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 3 p.m. The two teams will wrap up the series in Storrs on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 3 p.m.
The Huskies are coming off one of their most successful seasons as a program in 2019-20. The team rattled off 19 wins, tying for third-most wins in program history.
13 wins came in Hockey East play, tying for the most in program history (2007-08) and landed the Huskies in a tie fifth place finish. The sixth-seeded Huskies surged through the Hockey East Championship bracket by winning a three-game series at Boston College in the Quarterfinals and followed it up with a victory against New Hampshire in the semifinals. The Huskies run ended in the Hockey East Championship game against Northeastern.
UConn also set a new program record by securing 12 road wins in 2019-20.
The Huskies return six of their top eight point producers including their leading scorer (16 goals, 17 assists, 33 points), team captain and Second Team Hockey East All-Star Natalie Snodgrass. The Huskies also bring back five of their six top defenseman entering the 2020-21 campaign including graduate student and assistant captain Emily Reid.
Samantha Carpentier-Yelle returns as the most experienced goaltender on the roster after going 7-3 with a 1.70 GAA and .929 save percentage.
UConn is 21-37-8 all-time against the Friars and went 1-1-1 last season. The Huskies win came on the road on Dec. 5 on the strength of Kaitlyn Yearwood's first career goal, giving UConn a 1-0 victory.
The Huskies were picked fourth in the Hockey East preseason poll.
