PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The UConn baseball team (1-2) are set for a rematch of last Sunday's 7-1 victory against the Michigan Wolverines in Scottsdale, Ariz. in the MLB4 Collegiate Baseball Tournament.
This time, the Huskies and Wolverines (3-1) will link up for three games in Port St. Lucie, Fla. at the Mets Spring Training Facility. The Wolverines had a great opening weekend, beating No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 3 Arizona State and Cal Poly before falling to the Huskies.
Michigan comes in ranked No. 1 in the latest Baseball America rankings after their hot start.Â
For the Huskies, this will be the second week in a row that they've faced the No. 1 team in the country (Vanderbilt) and will look to secure their first win against the top ranked team since 2001 when the Huskies defeated Notre Dame in South Bend.
UConn was able to salvage opening weekend after dropping the first two games with only five combined hits and committed six errors in the field.
Pitching was a bright spot for the Huskies with Joe Simeone, Colby Dunlop and Nick Krauth only giving up one earned run in 14.2 innings. Those three starters are lined up to start again this weekend.
Senior Kenneth Haus was impressive out of the UConn bullpen, firing 5.1 scoreless frames without allowing a hit.Â
Freshman Reggie Crawford helped lead the UConn offense on Sunday with his first career multi-hit game that featured a two-run single and bases-clearing double to break the game open against the Wolverines.Â
This will be the Huskies first trip back to Port St. Lucie since 2017, when the Huskies took three-of-four from UMass Lowell. UConn also played Siena there back in 2015.
All three games can be heard on 91.7 FM WHUS or online at whus.org with Chris Jones on the call.
