HOCKEY EAST ALL-ACADEMIC RELEASE
STORRS, Conn. – The Hockey East Association announced their annual academic awards on Tuesday and 15 Huskies were selected to the 2019-20 All-Academic team, setting a new program-high mark for the program.
Hockey East announced that a record 183 male student-athletes earned the honor this season. Each student-athlete achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or better in each of the two academic periods during which he was actively competing.
Of the 15 Huskies selected, eight student-athletes earned the honor for a second time or better. Three recent graduates toped the UConn list in Alexander Payusov (Montreal, Quebec), a three-time honoree, Benjamin Freeman (Falmouth, Maine) and Wyatt Newpower (Hugo, Minn.).
Rising senior goaltender Bradley Stone (London, England) was also a three-time All-Academic team pick while classmate Adam Karashik (Ridgefield, Conn.) has now earned the honor twice.
The rest of the Huskies' two-time honorees were rising juniors Carter Turnbull (Nanianmo, British Columbia), Ryan Wheeler (Lancaster, N.Y.) and John Wojciechowski (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) along with Ruslan Iskhakov (Moscow, Russia) and Jordan Timmons (South Fayette, Pa.).
Earning the academic award for the first time were rising senior Zac Robbins (Glenview, Ill.) as well as rising sophomores Carter Berger (North Vancouver, British Columbia), Ryan Keane (Coppell, Texas), Yan Kuznetsov (Murmansk, Russia) and Eric Linell (Great Neck, N.Y.).
As a team, the Huskies posted a 3.643 GPA during this past spring semester and also, for the second-straight year, were honored with an NCAA Public Recognition Award for outstanding academic performance this spring.
