- The UConn Huskies will be on the road this weekend for a two-game series against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
- UConn is on their longest road swing of the season at seven-straight away from home. The Huskies will be back at the XL Center on November 12 when they host Boston College.
- This will be the third time the Huskies and Buckeyes have played a two-game series, all during head coach Mike Cavanaugh's tenure with UConn. Ohio State is 2-0-2 against UConn in the series. The last time the Huskies paid a visit to Columbus was the 2016-17 season.
- UConn vs. the BIG TEN... The Huskies are 2-6-3 all time versus teams from the Big Ten Conference. UConn has faced Ohio State more than any other team in the league, going 0-2-2 against the Buckeyes. The Huskies are 2-1-1 against Penn State and 0-1-0 against both Michigan and Wisconsin. UConn was 1-4-1 when facing Notre Dame as a member of Hockey East.
- The Huskies are coming off a weekend split with No. 10 ranked Boston University last week in the Hockey East opener for both clubs. The Huskies dropped a 2-1 decision at home on Friday night but rebounded for a 5-1 win on the road last Saturday. UConn received votes in both the USCHO Top-20 poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Top-15 poll this week.Â
- Ohio State opened their season last weekend with a road split at Bentley, falling 2-1 in the opener and answering with a 7-1 win to close the series.
- UConn grad student Darion Hanson was named the Hockey East Goaltender of the Week on Monday. Hanson got his first Hockey East win of the season, making 29 saves in Saturday's road win, keeping BU off the scoreboard in the second and third periods. Over two games of work, Hanson stopped 72 of 75 shots faced. In Friday's loss, he stopped a season-high 43 of 45 shots.
- Junior forward Vladislav Firstov is off to a fast start to the season, scoring UConn's lone goal in Friday's loss to give him three goals in three games this season.Â
- Seniors Jonny Evans and Jachym Kondelik have both had at least a point in all three games this season. Kondelik had three assists last weekend, two coming in Saturday's win. Evans scored his first goal of the season in Saturday's win, and added an assist. The duo both have a goal and three assists each on the year.
- Kondelik is coming off his third-straight season of 20-plus points, finishing with four goals and a team-best 18 assists last year. He is the Huskies leading active career point leader at 72 points (17g/55a).
- Sophomore Ryan Tverberg is leading the team in scoring in the early going, putting up five points on three goals and two assists. Tverberg had a career-high two goals, including the game-winner, in the win at BU.
- Evans was a CCM/AHCA second team All-American, UConn's first since 1998, after winning the Hockey East scoring title with 29 points on 14 goals and 15 assists last season. He also became the first UConn player to be named a Hockey East First All-Star. Evans was also a finalist for the Hockey East Player of the Year award as well as being a Hobey Baker candidate.
- The Huskies were picked to finish sixth in this year's Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll, their highest ever spot in the preseason ranking. In six of their seven seasons in Hockey East, the Huskies have outplayed their preseason prediction. Last season, UConn was tabbed seventh in the preseason poll and finished fourth in the final standings, their best-ever conference finish.Â
- The leadership for this year's Huskies will be made up by a foursome of upperclassman. Seniors Carter Turnbull, an assistant captain last season, and Jachym Kondelik will wear the "C" on their jerseys this year while fellow senior Marc Gatcomb and junior Roman Kinal will serve as assistant captains.
