STORRS, Conn. - The No. 18 UConn field hockey team (9-8, 5-1 BIG EAST) scored a pair of third quarter goals to lift the Huskies past Georgetown, 2-0-, on Friday afternoon at the George Sherman Family Sports Complex.
Both teams combined for 14 penalty corners in the first half but were unable to capitalize heading into halftime.
The score remained tied 0-0 going into the late stages of the third quarter until graduate student Jessica Dembrowski tipped home a redirect from Madi Herb with just under two minutes to play.
In her 100th career game, it was the fourth goal of the season for Dembrowski and her 30th career goal at UConn.
Less than a minute later, the Huskies received a penalty stroke opportunity. Claire Jandewerth buried the opportunity to give UConn a little breathing room with a 2-0 lead.
WIth the win, the Huskies clinch a spot in the four-team BIG EAST Championship that will be hosted in Storrs on November 5-7.
