Men’s Hoops Dominates DePaul; Advances to BIG EAST Semis

NEW YORK – Three players scored 14 points and the Huskies dominated the glass as the University of Connecticut men's basketball team defeated DePaul, 94-60, in its return to the BIG EAST Tournament in Madison Square Garden on Thursday night.
With the win, UConn improves to 15-6 and advances to a BIG EAST Tournament semifinal matchup against Creighton on Friday evening in the Big Apple. Game time is set for 9 p.m. and the contest will be televised nationally on FS1.
The Huskies, seeking their 11th appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament championship game, improved to 8-1 in their last nine BIG EAST Tournament contests, dating back to the epic five wins in five days triumph in 2011.
R.J. Cole, Tyrese Martin and Adama Sanogo each scored 14 points while James Bouknight was the fourth Husky in double-figure scoring with 10 points. Cole was rock solid at the point and dished-out eight assists for the second-straight game. His eight helpers came against only one turnover.
Martin's 14 went along with 10 rebounds while Sanogo was 6-9 from the floor in only 16-minutes of action.
Connecticut led by only five points, 18-13, midway through the first half, but the Huskies scored six-straight points in a 20-seocond span to seize control of the contest. It was all UConn from there as the Huskies led 45-22 at the break and extended the lead to as many as 39 in the second half.
UConn decimated DePaul on the glass, outrebounding the Blue Demons 53-32 on the evening and outscored DePaul 50-30 in the paint. The Huskies also posted 20 assists and committed only eight turnovers on Thursday.
