STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (10-12) utilized great pitching and defense before an offensive explosion in the late innings to run away from Boston College, 12-0, at Elliot Ballpark on Tuesday afternoon.
The Huskies received a five run seventh and five-run eighth to distance themselves from the Eagles. Chris Winkel hit a pair of home runs while Kyler Fedko delivered a three-run homer for the Huskies.
Prior to the offensive explosion, the Huskies received a stellar start from starting pitcher Pat Gallagher. The right-hander held down a quality Eagle's lineup with 5.0 shutout innings, four scattered hits and three punch outs.
The UConn defense helped its pitchers with CF Chris Winkel throwing out Jack Cunningham at second base, Kyler Fedko producing three great catches in right and Erik Stock making a running grab in the left field corner in the fifth.
Kenny Haus, Andrew Marrero, Caleb Wurster and Justin Willis combined to throw four shutout frames, allowing two hits and zero walks.
The Huskies face UMass this weekend in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 4 p.m. and closing with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.

- Chris Winkel had a career-high five RBIs and had his first mutli-homer game of his UConn career.
