STORRS, Conn. - The UConn Huskies return to the BIG EAST Championship game for the second time in program history as they look to claim the program's first-ever conference championship when they take on the No. 1 seed Denver on Saturday at Cooper Field. Opening draw is scheduled for 12 noon and the game will be available on FS2.
- The Huskies advanced to the title game thanks to a 15-13 win over Georgetown on Thursday night, the Huskies first-ever win over the Hoyas on the road in 12 trips to Washington, D.C.
- Junior Lia LaPrise scored five goals with an assist while senior Sydney Watson chipped in four goals, an assist and 11 draw controls to lead the Huskies. After trailing 6-5 at the half, LaPrise helped fuel an offensive surge in the second half, scoring four of her goals as the Huskies stormed back to drop the Hoyas for the third-straight game.
- UConn will be making its second BIG EAST Championship game appearance, having lost to the top-seed Florida in the 2015 final, 20-6, at home in Storrs. The Huskies are also hoping to claim their second-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament with a win. UConn earned an at-large bid to the national tournament in 2013.
- Denver swept the season series from the Huskies in Storrs, winning a three-overtime thriller, 14-13, and the series finale, 11-7. In the two games, LaPrise finished with five goals and seven assists while Watson had nine goals over the weekend set.
- Thursday's win over the Hoyas was the Huskies 12th victory on the season, tying the school record for wins. They hit the 12 win mark in 2016 and 2005. Junior goaltender Landyn White has been the goaltender of record in all 12 wins, tying the school mark for goaltender wins (12 - Shannon Nee, 2016).
- UConn took home a pair of major post season awards as senior Sydney Watson was the unanimous winner of the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and head coach Katie Woods and her staff were named the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year. Woods and her staff also won the award in 2013 and 2015.
- Watson led the Huskies and the BIG EAST with 48 goals scored on the season, an average of 3.43 goals per game. Over 14 games, she has put up 48 goals and 10 assists and leads the conference with 116 draw controls, an 8.29 per game average.
- Watson has been named one of 25 nominees for the 2021 Tewaaraton Award, recognizing the top female college lacrosse player in the country.
- She leads a list of eight Huskies who were named to the 2021 BIG EAST All-Conference teams. Watson is joined on the first team by junior attacker Lia LaPrise, both unanimous picks, and sophomore defender Ariana Kline.
- On the All-BIG EAST second team were senior attacker Stephanie Palmucci, junior attacker Grace Coon, senior midfielder Abby Vetsch, graduate student defender Alyssa Conklin and junior goaltender Landyn White.
