No. 16 FH Opens BIG EAST Play Against No. 19 ODU

STORRS, Conn. - The No. 16 UConn field hockey team (2-4) will open its BIG EAST conference season with a matchup against No. 19 Old Dominion (4-1) on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the George Sherman Family Sports Complex.
The Huskies have won nine-straight regular season titles and were picked in the preseason to take the crown in 2021. The Monarchs come in picked to finish third in the league but have rattled off four wins in a row and have settled into the Top-20 in the polls.
UConn has played a brutal non-conference slate to this point losing to No. 3 Boston College and No. 4 Northwestern on the road along with home losses to No. 15 Rutgers and No. 16 Syracuse.Â
The Huskies are coming off a loss to the Orange but scored a season-high three goals, with all of them coming on penalty corners.
First Team NFHCA All-American Jessica Dembrowski broke through on Sunday with her first two goals of the season. The Huskies rank sixth in the league with a 1.28 scoring average.
UConn is 20-24 all-time against the Monarchs but the last two matches have been wins to secure the 2019 and 2021 Spring BIG EAST Tournament titles. UConn has won 10 in a row in the series dating back to 2013.
UConn will turnaround and play a non-conference home game against Harvard on Sunday, September 19 against No. 13 Harvard at 1 p.m.
The Huskies are 30-4-2 against the Crimson in a series that dates back to 1975.Â
