BOSTON, Mass. – The UConn No. 22 nationally ranked women's cross-country team took fourth place at the Coast-to-Coast Beantown Battle at Boston's Franklin Park on Friday afternoon. The Huskies were fourth in a field of 22 teams with a total of 122 team points.
"Today was a solid day," said head coach Lindsay Crevoiserat. "Our first big race in a big field and being able to find each other in a National caliber field is important. Today was good practice and learning from each race is what will make us the best we possibly can be when it counts during championship season!"
UConn placed a pair of runners in the top-15 in the field in the 5K race. Nationally ranked North Carolina took the team title with 63 points followed by Providence, also in the national polls, in second with 82 points and Duke in third with 115 points.
"Mia and Chloe did a great job for us, leading the team going 1,2," stated Crevoiserat. "Melissa, Jenna and Celia, moved up really well in this race and just ran out of room to run people down."
Freshman Chloe Thomas (Dundas, Ontario) led the UConn contingent with a 10th place finish in the highly competitive field, clocking in at 17:44. Senior Mia Nahom (New Milford, Conn.) came home 12th overall with a clocking of 17:29.
Rounding out the Huskies' top-five finishers was senior Melissa Zammitti (Charlotte, N.C.) who took 29th overall with a time of 17:49. Sophomore Jenna Zydanowicz (West Hartford, Conn.) was 33rd with a time of 17:54 and senior Celia Chacko (Windsor, Conn.) was 38th posting a time of 18:03.
"We're in a good spot, and just getting better each week. This was a great preview for what regionals will look like in November.?
The Huskies will return to action on Friday, October 15 when they head out to the University of Wisconsin for the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, their final race before this year's BIG EAST Championship.
