CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The UConn field hockey team (4-6, 1-1 BIG EAST) dropped a close match to the No. 7 North Carolina Tar Heels on Sunday afternoon.
The Huskies got off to a great start with McKenna Sergi scoring 4:17 into the match. It was her third goal of the season.
Down a starter (Dickinson) and a key contributor off the bench (Solomen), the Huskies led until the 21.47 mark of the second quarter when the Tar Heels evened the score.
The score remained tied until the fourth quarter but the second goal for 2021 Honda Award winner Erin Matson gave the Tar Heels the lead.
The Huskies pulled Cheyenne Sprecher from goal in the waning minutes of the fourth and the Tar Heels were able to grab insurance before the final whistle.
UConn returns to the field on Friday, Oct. 1 against Providence at 6 p.m. at the George Sherman Family Sports Complex.
