STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's cross-country team will line up Saturday morning at the Mark Coogan Cross Country Course at Highland Park in Attleboro, MA for the 2022 BIG EAST Championships
Saturday's 6K championship race will step off at 11 am and will be available to stream live on the BIG EAST Digital Network available on FloSports. The medals ceremony will start at approximately 12:40 p.m.
"We are looking forward to a great competition," commented Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Elizabeth Alford-Sullivan. "Heading into a conference championship race, we want to be on top of our game and go out there and execute a great race. I think we are really prepared to go out and do just that."
"We are going to line up with a solid combination of experienced veterans and youth and enthusiasm in this race and we can't wait to be a part of another historic BIG EAST conference race."
The Huskies will be looking to close the gap on defending champion Georgetown. Since returning to the BIG EAST two seasons ago, UConn finished second in the spring 2021 championship race and third last fall, just five points behind the Hoyas. "The favorite will be Georgetown and Providence, on their home course. We and Villanova will battle to be right there. Anything can happen and we want to be right there in the mix."
The Huskies are led by their top-three in grad student Randi Burr (Westerly, RI), junior Jenna Zydanowicz (West Hartford, CT) and sophomore Chloe Thomas (Dundas, Ontario), all having All-BIG EAST experience.
At last fall's race, Thomas was seventh in the field in her first conference championship race. Burr placed fifth and Zydanowicz was sixth in the spring 2021 race to earn all-league accolades. "Our top three finished top-10 in this race in past years. We want them to do that again and bring that to this team. They have been able to lead our 4-5-6 all season and helped them stay competitive and give us some breakthrough performances. They have been great role models, great in practice, and shown both intensity while enjoying the hard work this season. We are excited to get out there tomorrow and execute."
