HARTFORD, Conn. – The No. 15 Northeastern Huskies scored four times in the third period led by a hat-trick from junior Aidan McDonough to erase a 2-0 UConn lead and deal the No. 19 Huskies a 5-2 loss at the XL Center Saturday afternoon.
The loss gives Northeastern a weekend sweep and the season series over UConn. The Huskies fall to 17-14-0 and 13-9-0 in Hockey East with the loss. NU improved to 22-10-1 and 13-7-1 in the league.
UConn built a 2-0 lead in the second period on a power play goal from junior Jake Flynn (Bridgewater, Mass.) and another from senior Jachym Kondelik (Budejovic, Czech Republic). McDonough's first on the day came in the second period and set off a run of five unanswered for Northeastern on the way to the win.
With the game tied at 2-2 in the third, UConn had a goal from Carter Turnbull (Nanaimo, British Columbia) overturned on review. From there it was all Northeastern who scored four-straight, two more from McDonough, including an empty netter to seal it away, and finished with four points.
NU got goals from Jack Hughes and Ty Jackson as well. Goaltender Devon Levi made 40 saves in earning the win.
UConn outshot Northeastern 42-27 on the night and was 1-for-4 on the power play. Graduate student Darion Hanson (East Bethel, Minn.) made 22 saves for the Huskies.
1st period:
The Huskies took advantage of a late power play chance and took a 1-0 lead after the first 20 minutes. Jonny Evans (North Delta, British Columbia) fired on Levi who got a stop but the rebound found Flynn who cleaned it up on the open net for his second on the year.

2nd period:
UConn made it 2-0 at 1:33 in the second as Kondelik scored his 12th of the season. Kondelik fired a shot that hit the post from the slot and he was able to follow his show and chip the rebound past Levi to give UConn a two-goal lead.
Northeastern got one back at 9:15 in the second as McDonough scored his first, breaking up the left wing, taking a feed from Tommy Miller and sniping one short side to make it 2-1 heading to the third.

3rd period:
Northeastern pulled even at 3:33 in the third as Jack Hughes finished off a feed from Riley Hughes in the slot. The Huskies got period power play chance and looked like they took a 3-2 lead as Turnbull scored off a face-off in the zone, fighting to the front of the net and slipping one past Levi at 3:57. After a review, the goal was waved off for goaltender interference, keeping it 2-2.
McDonough put in the game-winner at 11:40, slicing his way to the net on a rush and tucking a shot just inside the right post for his second of the day and 3-2 lead. Jackson made it 4-2 at 14:58, putting home a rebound on a Gunnarwolfe Fontaine shot for his sixth of the season.
McDonough finished off the hat-trick with 13 seconds left, scoring from nearly the full length of the ice for his 22nd on the season.
