KINGSTON, R.I. - The No. 25 UConn baseball team (16-5) dropped the middle game of the series to the Rhode Island Rams, 6-2, on Saturday afternoon at Bill Beck Field.
The Huskies and Rams were deadlocked 0-0 entering the fifth inning. UConn starter Pat Gallagher was able to escape a bases loaded, no out jam in the fourth with back-to-back strikeouts and a fly out to end the threat.
UConn followed with Bryan Padilla recording the Huskies first hit, a two-out triple in the fifth. Freshman Matt Garbowski followed with an RBI single to make it 1-0 Huskies.
Rhode Island responded with four-straight hits to begin the fifth including a three-run homer for Anthony DePino. It was the first of two homers for the Rhode Island first baseman.
Erik Stock registered a home run for the third-straight game but it was not enough for the Huskies.
UConn will play its first rubber game of the season with the series finale at 1:05 p.m. at Elliot Ballpark.
