Softball wins Seton Hall series, secures spot in Big East Tournament

South Orange, NJ – UConn beats Seton Hall 5-2 to secure their seventh straight series win. The Huskies have now clinched a spot in the BIG EAST tournament.
Meghan O'Neil started in the circle for game two. She tossed a gem going the distance for the Huskies. She finished only allowing two runs on five hits and struck out two. She now moves to 10-6 on the season.
The Huskies got off to a quick start off the bat of Briana Marcelino. She hit a solo shot to lead off the game, her eighth of the year to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Rosie Garcia added to the lead in the first with a two run double to make it 3-0.
Seton Hall scored two runs in the fourth inning to trim the lead to 3-2. UConn responded right back with a run in the top half of the fifth inning. Lexi Hastings hit a sac fly to score Marcelino making it 4-2 Huskies.
Lauren Benson added to the lead in the sixth inning. She hit a single to right field, scoring pinch runner Makenzie Mason, extending the lead to 5-2.
UConn will look to complete the series sweep tomorrow at 12:00pm.
