HookC Heads to BIG EAST Championship Game

MASON, Ohio - The top-seeded UConn baseball team (45-13) defeated Creighton, 7-1, on Saturday afternoon at Prasco Park to advance into the BIG EAST Championship game on Sunday.
The Huskies received a brilliant performance from Pat Gallagher with seven innings of one run ball, just three hits allowed, zero walks and six strikeouts. After a leadoff walk in the fourth, Gallagher proceeded to retire the next 12 Bluejays in a row.
The First Team All-BIG EAST starting pitcher came up big in the third inning, after allowing back-to-back doubles to tie the game at 1-1, the Leominster, Mass. native got a strike out and pair of ground outs to keep the game tied.
Korey Morton and the UConn offense followed with six unanswered runs including a pair of homers for Morton. The sophomore launched a two-out three run homer in the third to make it 4-1 and added a solo shot in the sixth inning.
Zach Bushling and Erik Stock helped create some cushion with a double and sacrifice fly to bring in two more runs and make it 7-1 UConn.
UConn advances to play Xavier on in the BIG EAST Championship game at noon on Sunday. The Huskies will have two opportunities to win their second-straight tournament title with a potential second game to follow the first.
Game Notes
- The 2022 Huskies are the third UConn team to win 45 games in a season (2010, 2011).
- Morton is the fifth Husky to record a multi-homer game this season (Bushling, Dana, Huber Smith).
- UConn is 5-0 all-time against Creighton.
- The Huskies have 180 two-out RBI this season.
