No. 11 FH Takes BIG EAST Opener, 2-1, in Double OT

NORFOLK, Va. - The No. 11 UConn field hockey team (5-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) knocked off No. 14 Old Dominion, 2-1, in double overtime to open BIG EAST Conference play.
The two sides played a scoreless opening three quarters before the Huskies finally broke through.
Freshman Julia Bressler scored for the second-straight game at the 50:18 mark to give the Huskies a 1-0 advantage.
All-Conference performer Delphine Le Jeune evened the score at 1-1 with two and a half minutes left in regulation.
The score remained tied 1-1 until the second overtime period. Aiyi Young scored the game-winner six minutes into the second overtime to give the Huskies the victory and push its win streak to three games.
The three game win streak has come against the No. 7, No. 24 and No. 14 ranked teams in the country.
Cheyenne Sprecher was her usual superb self, making seven saves on the afternoon.
The Argentinian newcomers of Juana Garcia and Sol Simone made their impact felt by providing an assist each on the UConn goals.
Next up, the Huskies wrap up its season-long five-game road swing with a Sunday, September 18 matchup against No. 24 William & Mary at 11 a.m.
