WSOC Caps Four-Point Road Trip With 0-0 Draw At Butler

INDIANAPOLIS – The UConn women's soccer team (6-3-5, 3-1-3 BIG EAST) notched its ninth shutout of the year and earned a point on the road against Butler (5-6-5, 1-2-4 BIG EAST) on Sunday afternoon at Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl.
The Huskies offense outshot the Bulldogs 10-7 in the second half and had the lion's share of the scoring opportunities with a 6-2 shots on goal edge.
In the 51st minute, the Huskies had its best chance to take the lead with senior Jessica Mazo drilling a shot off the crossbar and eventually the ball ended up bouncing in the air to fifth year Cara Jordan, who had her shot sail high.
Junior Abbey Jones created a quality chance with a shot from outside the box that was knocked away by the Butler keeper and resulted in a UConn corner kick.
Corner kicks were even, 4-4, on Sunday and neither team was able to capitalize on the set piece opportunity.
Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Mahoney notched her ninth shutout of the year, continuing to add to her career-high, making two saves on the afternoon.
Mazo led the Huskies with five shots, while Jones and Okafor added three and Anaya Johnson logged two shots.
The result keeps the Huskies in fourth place in the BIG EAST standings with three games left on the ledger.
Sunday's result also gave the Huskies four points on its five-day road trip. The first time the Huskies have accumulated that many points on a long road trip since 2016.
Next up, UConn returns home for its final regular season match at Morrone Stadium on Thursday, October 19 at 7 p.m. against the Villanova Wildcats.
