STORRS - The No. 5 UConn men's basketball team (6-0) is back in action on Monday night when it plays host to New England neighbor New Hampshire (4-2) inside Gampel Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on CBS Sports Network with John Sadak and Steve Lappas on the call.Â
The Huskies enter Monday's contest on the verge of history. UConn has already tied an all-time record by winning 23-straight games against non-conference foes all by double-figures. They can take sole possession of the record, currently shared with North Carolina from 2008-09, with a double-digit victory on Monday night.Â
UConn has stormed out to a 6-0 start behind an efficient, high-powered offense and a stingy defense. The Huskies currently rank first in the BIG EAST and top-20 nationally in both scoring offense and scoring defense and are third in the country in scoring margin. Five players average at least 12.7 points per game, led by Cam Spencer (Davidsonville, Md.) at 16.2 per game and Alex Karaban (Southborough, Mass.) at 16.0 per game.Â
Tristen Newton (El Paso, Texas) is third on the Huskies in scoring with 15.3 points per game and leads UConn in both rebounding at 7.8 per game and assists with 6.8 per contest. He became UConn's all-time triple-double king in the win over Manhattan on Friday with a 15-point, 13-assist, 10-rebound performance in the 30-point win.Â
In their last outing the Huskies picked up a 90-60 victory over the aforementioned Jaspers, shooting season-highs of 58.1 percent from the floor and 45.0 percent from 3-point range. In support of Newton's triple-double, Spencer scored 18 points and Donovan Clingan (Bristol, Conn.) chipped in 17 on 7-of-11 shooting.Â
New Hampshire visits Storrs after a solid start to its season, coming in at 4-2 including back-to-back wins over Marist and Fairfield in its last two outings. The Wildcats are among the top scoring teams in the nation and are led by Clarence Daniels' 20.8 points per game. UConn leads the all-time series with their former Yankee conference-mates, 94-25, in a series dating all the way back to 1906-07.Â
Following Monday night's home tilt, UConn hits the road for the BIG EAST-BIg 12 Battle and a date at preseason No. 1 Kansas on Friday, Dec. 1.Â
