BERKELEY, Calif. - The UConn baseball team (3-3) fell 4-2 against the University of California Bears on Saturday afternoon at Evans Diamond.Â
The Huskies fell behind for the second-straight day and tried to mount another comeback. Trailing 4-0 entering the sixth inning, the Huskies started to string together some quality at-bats.
After a base hit from Luke Broadhurst and a one-out double for Korey Morton the Huskies had runners at second and third with one away. Dominic Freeberger delivered the first run of the game for UConn with an RBI groundout.Â
Ben Huber followed with a two-out RBI double to cut the deficit to two.Â
Stephen Quigley came out of the UConn bullpen and was exceptional with 3.2 shutout innings, allowing one hit, zero walks and four punch outs.
The Huskies had a shot to even the score in the seventh with runners at second and third with one out. David Smith grounded back to the mound and then Morton grounded sharply to third to end the threat.Â
UConn brought the tying run to the plate in the eighth and ninth but were unable to capture the magic they had on Friday night.
The Huskies and Bears wrap up the weekend with first pitch on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET.Â
