BOCA RATON, Fla. - The UConn baseball (6-3) beat FAU, 8-2, to earn its first series sweep of the season on Sunday afternoon at FAU Baseball Stadium.
The Huskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run homer from Dominic Freeberger. It was his second long ball of the season.
After the Owls tied the game in the second with a pair of bases loaded walks, RHP Tommy Ellisen came out of the pen and settled things down.
The Kimberly, Wisc. native pitched 3.2 shutout innings and earned his first career victory out of the bullpen.
UConn broke the game open in the fourth with a five-run frame, the most runs scored in an inning this season.
David Smith smacked an RBI single to left field to give the Huskies the lead back 3-2. After a Korey Morton sacrifice fly, Ben Huber smoked a two-run double to right field to make it 5-2.
Right fielder Jake Studley capped the inning with a two-out RBI single.Â
Next up, the Huskies are scheduled to play their home opener at 3:05 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7 against Hartford at Elliot Ballpark.Â
