HARTFORD, Conn. - A pair of three-run homers and a solid pitching performance from the No. 20 UConn (19-6) staff helped the Huskies earn a series win against UMBC (11-11), 11-2, on Saturday afternoon at Dunkin' Park.

Andrew Sears notched his first career victory with five solid inning of work. The left-hander settled in after a bumpy first inning to allow just two runs on four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out a career-high nine Retrievers.

The offense got going in the third inning with a five-run frame. Dominic Freeberger got the Huskies on the board with an RBI ground out and shortly after Ben Huber tied the game with an RBI single to left.

Jake Studley followed by mashing a three-run homer over the seats in left center field to make it a 5-2 Huskies lead.

The Huskies wouldn't look back, adding a three-run home run from Freeberger in the fourth.

Six UConn batters recorded multi-hit efforts as part of its 14-hit day at the plate.

The UConn bullpen had an excellent day on the mound with four pitchers combining to throw four shutout innings that limited the Retrievers to one hit and two walks.

Brady Afthim went two shutouts frames and was followed by a scoreless inning from MIchael Quigley.

Braden Quinn got the first out of the ninth and Joe Carrea closed out the ballgame by recording the last two outs.

UConn will wrap up non-conference weekends without losing a series and have won five-straight.

The Huskies will look to go for its third sweep of the season tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. at Elliot Ballpark.
