MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – The No.24 UConn Women's Lacrosse team is set to fly to Milwaukee, WI for their BIG EAST conference game versus Marquette on Saturday, April 15th. Opening draw is scheduled for 12:00pm EST (11:00am CST).
UConn is coming off a split week, defeating Villanova University in their first game of conference play, and losing to BIG EAST rival, No.3 Denver University at home in a close game. The Huskies were ranked 25 nationally last week, and after their strong showing versus the Pioneers, they moved up to take the number 24 spot this week.
Lia LaPrise had a great offensive showing last week, scoring six goals, and notching two assists, with three ground balls and one caused turnover. Scoring offense was followed up by Grace Coon at five goals, Susan Lafountain at four goals, and Kate Shaffer at three goals. Shaffer scored her 100th career goal versus Denver, while Lafountain is ranked #29 nationally in shot percentage. Senior midfielder, Madelyn George, was named to the BIG EAST honor roll this week after 10 draw controls and three goals of her own.
Grad student goalkeeper, Landyn White, had 19 saves on the week, putting her at over 500 career saves, while continuing to impress on the national level – she's currently ranked #8 in the country for save percentage, #4 in saves per game, #7 for total saves, and #14 for ground balls.
Scouting Marquette
The Golden Eagles come into the game 12-1, having only lost to then-No.3 Northwestern; they're currently on a nine-game win streak. Marquette is 2-0 in conference play after beating both Georgetown and Xavier. This is the best start to BIG EAST play in their program history. Shea Garcia scored a program-record eight goals in the defeat of Xavier, with seven of those goals coming in the first quarter alone. Goalkeeper, Brynna Nixon, had five saves, with Ava Sprinkel notching one. The Golden Eagles will be looking to extend their win streak versus the Huskies in tomorrow's game.
