PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – The UConn women's field hockey team fell to Saint Joseph's in their first game of the 2023 season, 2-0.
The Hawks came out of the gate strong in the first quarter, taking the lead about halfway through with a shot high into the left corner, just sneaking past freshman goalie, Natalie McKenna. After five consecutive penalty corners, with less than two minutes to go in the first quarter, the Hawks snuck another, and final, goal in to make the game 2-0.
From there, it was a scoreless game for both sides. The Huskies dominated the Hawks in the second half, but couldn't capitalize on any of their three penalty corners or seven shots.
Freshman goalkeeper, McKenna, made eight saves in the loss to the Hawks. BIG EAST Freshman of the Year in 2022, Sol Simone, led the team with three shots, followed closely by McKenna Sergi with two of her own.
The Huskies will travel to West Long Branch, NJ to take on the Monmouth Hawks on Sunday, August 27th at 12:00pm. The game will be streamed on FloSports.
