PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – The UConn field hockey team (1-5) is set to open their BIG EAST slate on Friday in a road game versus Temple University. UConn will head to New Jersey to take on Princeton on Sunday to complete their two-week stretch of road games.
The Huskies are coming off a loss to then-No.7 Syracuse last Sunday in upstate New York. The Orange bested the Huskies in shots and shots on goal in the 3-0 loss. Freshman goalkeeper, Natalie McKenna, had a standout performance keeping UConn in the game with her nine saves.
The Temple Owls (4-2) are on a two-game win streak after beating LIU at home and JMU on the road last weekend. This will be the first conference game for both teams as they each look to return to the BIG EAST tournament, hosted in Philadelphia by Temple. The Owls defeated the Huskies in 2022 to solidify their spot in the tournament as the fourth seed. This will be the 21st meeting between UConn and Temple, with the Huskies at a 15-4-1 advantage.
The Princeton Tigers (1-3) are looking to defeat the Huskies once again as they matchup later this weekend. In 2022, the Tigers took home the road win at UConn, but the all-time record between the two stands at 17-12 in favor of the Huskies. The similarity between the two teams thus far this season lies in both teams playing quite a bit of overtime. The Tigers play No.5 Maryland on Thursday afternoon ahead of the Sunday matchup.
The Huskies face the Owls on Friday, September 14th at 1:00pm and the Tigers on Sunday, September 17th at noon. Both games can be streamed on ESPN+.
