Huskies Fall to Harvard in Overtime Buzzer Beater

STORRS, Conn. – The No.15 UConn women's field hockey team (1-3) fell to the Harvard Crimson in an overtime buzzer beater, 3-2 .
The first half of the game remained scoreless as UConn and Harvard's play was mostly in the midfield. The Huskies and the Crimson each had four shots in the first half, with goalies making three saves each.
It was a whirlwind of a thirs quarter with the Crimson were on the board first. Their goal was answered by UConn within the next minute of play. Sisters, Julia and Belle Bressler worked together to tie the game up, with Belle passing the ball to Julia for the goal. Harvard scored again as time was ticking down in the third period, which was once again, answered within a minute by the Huskies. Grad transfer, Julianna Kratz, score her first goal in navy blue, with an assist from sophomore, Violeta Francese.
The game remained scoreless through the final period of regulation time before being forced into overtime. The Huskies and Crimson stayed tied in overtime, even after penalty corner attempts for each team. The Crimson took the lead as the final second of the overtime period counted down to give them the win.
UConn freshman goalkeeper, Natalie McKenna, had five saves in the loss. The Huskies offense was led by Sol Simone, who had three shots and Julia Bressler with two shots and goal.
The Huskies start a stretch of road games as they head to Ithaca, N.Y. to take on another Ivy League opponent, Cornell. The game is set for Friday, September 8th at 4:00pm and will stream on ESPN+.
