ITHACA, N.Y. – The UConn field hockey team (1-3) readies for a stretch of road games over the next two weekends spanning three states – New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The Huskies are set to take on the Cornell Big Red on Friday, September 8th at 4:00pm and the No.7 Syracuse Orange on Sunday, September 10th at 12:00pm.
UConn is coming off two tough losses to nationally ranked teams in their home opening weekend. Both the game against then-No.16 Rutgers and then-No.13 Harvard were sent to overtime, with the former ending in double shootouts.
The Huskies will play the Big Red first during their weekend trip to update New York. Cornell opened their season on Wednesday evening against in-state foe, Syracuse. They fell 4-2 against the Orange after a strong start where the Big Red scored the first two goals of the game and was then shut out during a Syracuse comeback. The Huskies are 2-0 all-time against the Big Red.
UConn will travel to Syracuse, N.Y. to take on the Syracuse Orange on Sunday afternoon. The Orange are undefeated after defeating Sacred Heart and Vermont on the road, and Monmouth and Cornell at home. The Huskies are 28-14-1 all-time against the Orange.
Freshman goalkeeper, Natalie McKenna, was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll this week for her play last weekend versus two nationally ranked teams. Sophomore, Julia Bressler, recorded two goals on the weekend, one in each game, for the Huskies.
The Huskies will be on ESPN+ on Friday at 4:00pm and the ACC Network on Sunday at 12:00pm.
